LEILA’S SQUARE

[Svensk version finns här!]

Leila’s square is a little granny square I’m planning to use for a bedspread or blanket for my little girl – Leila. This is the pattern for the square. I took inspiration from another crocheted flower, the Maybelle Flower, (pattern here), but I wanted a less open, more dense, design, so here’s what I came up with…

What you’ll need

Any yarn and hook you have laying about really. I used a 3.5 mm (E) hook and Scheepjes Catona, a sport weight mercerised cotton yarn, in purple shades: 226, 520, 240, 282, 113, 521 and grey: 074

First we crochet the flower…

Round 1

In a Magic Circle, ch 2 (does not count as a stitch) and then 12 dc, close with a slst in the first dc, pull the end to close the MC. (12 dc)

Round 6

This round is crocheted in the back loops only.

Join new colour with a standing sc in the tr at the top of any petal, (with the new yarn in a slipknot on your hook, just work a normal sc), sc in the next 2 sts *hdc, dc, hdc, sc in next 5 sts, repeat from * around, close with a slst in the first (standing) sc. (64 sts)
